That’s What She Wed

Angst-Free Single Wedding Goers EXIST!

So my recently-married friend jokingly emailed me and a few of her other unmarried girlfriends (aged between 23-26ish) this article from CNN.com called Angst of Being Single in Married Season.

I didn’t know whether to laugh or be offended. My gut feeling was “how DARE these CNN jerkfaces assume they know how single wedding guests feel at weddings.” I don’t know if this article is obnoxious because it is so presumptuous or because it strikes a truth – even if no one wants to admit it.

Personally – as a 25-year-old unmarried woman who’s been to more weddings sans-date than with date and who hasn’t been to any weddings with any type of rock on any finger, my joy:jealous ratio depends 100% on the couple. If the couple is gracious and kind, I feel mostly joy with a twinge of jealous. Who knows, maybe this will change in time? I just can’t see myself feeling “angsty” at a wedding.

My favorite part of this article is the statistic that there are 90 million unmarried adults in America today – that’s 41%! Rock on, America.
